As with the preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism and Confirmation, Immaculate Conception parish engages the candidates for First Reconciliation and First Communion with great fervor. The second grade students at Immaculate Conception School and parish religious education program are both actively engaged in these preparations. Besides the respective preparations that happen in the classroom, significant portions of the preparations also happen outside the classrooms. Four sessions - prayer, Bible, Reconciliation & Eucharist - are held on a weekday evening, where the students from the parish school and the religious education program meet together for active faith formation. The preparation reaches a climax on Jesus Day.
A significant part of the First Reconciliation and First Communion preparation at the parish is the involvement of the families the students in the faith formation process. In sessions specially designed for parents and guardians, the catechists also renew the faith of the entire family. The focus of these sessions is to underscore the fact that First Reconciliation and First Communion are events that happen to the child and are also events that impact the faith of the entire family.
